KCI Welcomed 10.6 Million Passengers In 2006
Kansas City International Airport (KCI) recorded 866,406 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in December, which represents an increase of 11.2 percent from December 2005. For all of 2006, total traffic at KCI was 10,569,590, an increase of 8.6 percent from 2005. Passenger boardings for December at KCI were up 11.2 percent, with a total of 449,517 during December. For the year, boardings at KCI totaled 5,416,245, an increase of 8.8 percent from last year.
“It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the results of what was a banner year,” said Director of Aviation Mark VanLoh. "Over the past twelve months our airline partners have responded to demand by adding nonstop service to eight new markets, including beach destinations like Cabo San Lucas, Fort Myers and Puerto Vallarta, bringing the total number of nonstop destinations served from KCI to 58. This excellent service portfolio moves our airport ahead of those in even larger cities like Portland, Oregon and San Diego, California.”
Director of Marketing Tom McKenna, added, “December marks the twelfth consecutive month of year over year passenger increases at KCI. It’s no secret that residents from all across the four-state area are driving to Kansas City to take advantage of nonstop flights and low fares. In fact, passengers choosing KCI over the airports in Omaha, Wichita or Des Moines save an average of $100 on each passenger’s round-trip itinerary. We’re extremely grateful to the airlines here and the incredible value they provide to the entire region.”
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for December was 230. Service was offered to 58 nonstop markets and more than 100 direct markets (one stop, same plane). There was an average of 22,679 domestic seats available in the market each day. In addition, there were 1,274 international seats available in the market on a weekly basis.
KCI recorded air cargo tonnages for the carriers, which consist of both freight and mail, were up 2.1 percent in December. Air freight handled at KCI during December amounted to nearly 20 million pounds, which represents a year over year increase of 4.6 percent. Air mail for December totaled over 5.1 million pounds, down 6.5 percent from December 2005. The all-cargo carriers reported 9 daily departures for December.
